Carl Otto Ehrenfried Nicolai (born Königsberg, June 9, 1810 - died Berlin May 11, 1849) was a German composer and conductor.
He is best known for his operatic version of Shakespeare's comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor, which goes by the German title of Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor. In addition to five operas, Nicolai composed works for orchestra and for chorus, and lieder for voice and piano (with some charming duets).
