
High Society is a 1956 film by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in VistaVision with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. It starred Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Celeste Holm, John Lund, and Louis Calhern. Louis Armstrong and his jazz band sang the title song. The film and musical were based upon the 1940 classic film The Philadelphia Story. Other songs included:
The film (more than forty years after the original movie was released) was adapted to the stage as a Broadway musical with several Porter songs from other sources added to the movie score. The Broadway production opened April 27, 1998, and played 144 performances. A revival opened in London in the Shaftesbury Theatre on 10 October 2005 and closed on 21 January 2006, after having toured the UK for over a year prior.
